There’s something magical about spending Independence Day on Anna Maria Island. The Gulf glitters turquoise, the air smells like salt and sunscreen, and the whole island slows down just enough to remind you what summer is supposed to feel like. Here’s everything you need to know to make the most of July 4th, 2026 on AMI.

The Day’s Events

What’s Happening This July 4th

AMI packs a full day of festivities into the holiday — from a beloved pirate parade in the morning to fireworks lighting up the Gulf at night. Here’s the lineup.

10:00 am – 12:30 pm  ·  Free

AMI Privateers 4th of July Parade

The island’s most beloved tradition. The Anna Maria Island Privateers kick off the holiday with a swashbuckling parade starting at Coquina Beach and winding north along Gulf Drive all the way to City Pier Park in Anna Maria. Expect decorated floats, classic cars, pirate costumes, and — fair warning — water guns. Wear clothes you don’t mind getting wet and stake out a spot on Gulf Drive early.

12:00 pm – 1:30 pm  ·  Free

City Pier Park Picnic Celebration

Right where the parade ends, the party continues. City Pier Park at 103 N. Bay Blvd hosts a family picnic with food trucks, live music, and activities for kids. Grab lunch, find a patch of shade, and soak up the community spirit before the afternoon beach hours. It’s one of those quintessentially AMI moments you’ll remember long after you’ve gone home.

Sandbar Restaurant Fireworks Extravaganza

The main event. Every year, the Sandbar Restaurant (100 Spring Ave, Anna Maria) puts on the island’s signature fireworks show, launched from their barge at dusk. The good news: you can watch from anywhere along the beach for free. For the full experience, book a dinner table or snag their VIP package, which includes prime fireworks seating, a catered menu, open bar, and valet. Tickets go fast — reserve well in advance.

Reserve at Sandbar

🐢 A reminder for guests: personal fireworks are not permitted on AMI beaches. Only sparklers are allowed, one at a time. This protects our nesting sea turtles and shorebirds — it’s peak nesting season in July. The Sandbar holds one of only two fireworks permits issued on the island each year.

🌊 Insider Tips for a Great July 4th
  • Beat the crowds early. The parade route along Gulf Drive fills up fast. Arrive by 9:30 am for a good spot, and consider biking from your rental — parking gets tricky island-wide by 10 am.
  • Book the Sandbar well ahead. Dinner reservations and VIP packages for the fireworks show typically sell out weeks in advance. Don’t wait until July.
  • Best free fireworks view. If you’re skipping the Sandbar dinner, set up on the beach anywhere near the north end of the island — Spring Avenue beach gives you a front-row seat at no cost.
  • Respect nesting season. July is peak sea turtle and shorebird nesting season on AMI. Keep beach fires unlit, clean up your space, and give wildlife plenty of room — especially after dark.
  • Plan your parking strategy. Holmes Beach and Anna Maria fill up quickly. Park further south and bike or walk, or use the free trolley that runs the length of the island.

Between Parade & Fireworks

How to Spend the Afternoon

You’ve caught the parade, grabbed lunch at the picnic — now what? The hours between early afternoon and fireworks are peak beach time. Here’s how to fill them well.

Hit the water

The Gulf is at its warmest in July, sitting around 85°F. Holmes Beach and Bradenton Beach are both beautiful and more accessible than the north end on parade day. If you want something a little more active, rent kayaks or paddleboards from Paddle AMI and explore the calm bay-side waters.

Explore the island

Take a spin on the free island trolley that runs the length of Gulf Drive. Stop in at the shops and galleries along Pine Avenue in Anna Maria City, or browse the waterfront restaurants in Bradenton Beach for an afternoon frozen drink. The AMI Chamber keeps a running list of what’s open and what’s happening all week.

Fresh seafood for the occasion

Nothing says Florida July 4th like fresh grouper on the water. A few favorites: The Waterfront Restaurant on Pine Avenue for upscale waterfront dining with an exceptional wine list, Bridge Street Bistro in Bradenton Beach for elevated coastal cuisine without the stuffiness, and Anna Maria Oyster Bar on the Bridge Street Pier for raw oysters, cold beer, and serious local character.
