Who’s ready for some island adventure?
An Anna Maria Island stay means endless opportunities to dive into thrilling water sports that will get your heart racing and your smile beaming.

Start your morning with a splash on a banana boat ride. Both Anna Maria Banana Boats and AMI Adventures Banana Boat Rides offer wild, laugh-out-loud fun perfect for teens, older kids—and yes, adults, too. You will get wet, you might fall off, and you’ll absolutely end up grinning ear to ear.

For an unforgettable ride across our sparkling waters, book a Jet Ski tour with AMI Adventures. Your guided trip will wind through the Gulf of Mexico, Tampa Bay, Anna Maria Sound, and Palma Sola Bay, with the chance to spot dolphins, manatees, seabirds, and more. You’ll even stop at a hidden sandbar for some island magic.

Prefer to chart your own course? Visit Coastal Water Sports AMI, a family-owned Brandon Beach outfitter that rents Sea Doos, Hobie sailboats, and paddleboards. Sea Doos can be rented by the half-hour, while other gear is available by the hour.

Want to explore beneath the waves?
Make a splash with AMI Escapes Boat Tours on their half-day sandbar adventure. You’ll enjoy underwater scooters, snorkeling, large play floats, and plenty of time in the crystal-clear waters surrounding Anna Maria Island.

Or take your snorkeling experience up a notch with a three-hour excursion from Scuba Ethan’s Outdoor Adventures. You’ll head to Egmont Key Island for a hidden snorkeling spot, where subtropical fish swim through sunken forts and sand dollars carpet the seafloor. They also offer PADI-certified scuba instruction for those ready to dive deeper.

Feeling adventurous in the sky instead of the sea?
Book a flight with AMI Parasail in Holmes Beach. This 90-minute trip includes 10–12 minutes soaring 500 feet above the Gulf. Launch and land right from the back of the boat for a smooth, dry landing—or request a refreshing dip before you return.

No matter which adventure calls your name, Anna Maria Island is ready to deliver the thrill, the beauty, and the memories you’ll treasure long after you’re back on shore.

Planning a Beach Getaway with Your Dog to Anna Maria Island

Planning a beach getaway with your furry friend can be an incredibly rewarding experience, especially when you’re headed to the stunning shores of Anna Maria Island. Known for its clear turquoise waters, soft sandy beaches, and laid-back atmosphere, this tropical haven offers the perfect blend of relaxation and adventure for both you and your pup. While certain areas of the beach are off-limits to dogs, the island’s dog-friendly vibe ensures that your canine companion will have plenty of opportunities to join in on the fun. Here’s how to make the most of your beach vacation with your dog on Anna Maria Island:

Choose Pet-Friendly Accommodations

The first step in planning your pet-friendly vacation is finding the perfect place to stay. Fortunately, at Beach Retreats, we have a variety of vacation rentals that welcome pets! When booking your stay, look for accommodations that offer ample space for your dog to play, relax, and feel at home. Many of our dog-friendly homes have fenced patios and backyards that are perfect for your furry friend to stretch his legs. This will ensure your pup is as comfortable and happy as you are throughout the trip.

A few of our favorite places are Crosswind Cottage, which has a nice outdoor area.  Just Beachy is another great choice, with accommodations for 8 people and plenty of room to roam. Or set your sights on Paradise Found, which features a great fenced in pool area where you can relax!

Pack Smart for Your Pup

Packing for a beach vacation with your dog requires a bit more planning than usual, but it’s well worth the effort. Along with your own essentials, make sure to bring all of your dog’s must-have items to ensure they enjoy the trip as much as you do. Start with the basics: their favorite bed or crate, food and treats, and a few toys to keep them entertained. Additionally, don’t forget to pack a sturdy leash, plenty of waste bags, and a portable water bowl to keep your pup hydrated during beach outings. If your dog has a favorite toy or blanket, bringing it along can provide a sense of comfort in a new environment. For those planning longer stays, consider bringing extra food, medications, and any grooming supplies your dog might need.

Explore Pet-Friendly Activities

While dogs aren’t permitted on Anna Maria Island’s main gulf beaches, don’t worry—there are still plenty of places where your furry friend can run, play, and enjoy the outdoors. The beaches along the causeway on Manatee Avenue are pet-friendly and offer the perfect spot for your dog to dip their paws in the water. For more adventure, head to Holmes Beach, where the island’s designated dog park is located. This fenced area allows your dog to run off-leash and socialize with other pups.

In addition to the beaches and parks, many of Anna Maria’s restaurants are pet-friendly, particularly those with outdoor patios. This means you and your pup can enjoy a relaxing meal together after a day of exploring. For nature lovers, don’t miss a trip to Robinson Preserve, a scenic 7.3-mile dog-friendly trail where you can enjoy a peaceful walk while taking in the natural beauty of the island.

Plan for Health and Safety

Ensuring your dog’s health and safety while traveling is crucial for a stress-free trip. Before leaving for your vacation, make sure your dog is up-to-date on vaccinations and flea/tick prevention, as Florida’s warm climate can bring about unwanted pests. It’s also a good idea to bring a copy of your dog’s medical records, just in case you need them in an emergency. Research local veterinarians in the area and keep their contact information handy.

While at the beach, remember that the sun and heat can be overwhelming for dogs. Always provide plenty of shade and fresh water to keep your pup cool and hydrated. Consider applying dog-safe sunscreen to protect sensitive areas like their nose and ears, and think about using booties to shield their paws from hot sand. If your dog enjoys swimming, make sure to supervise them closely when they’re in the water to ensure their safety.

Create Lasting Memories

Your time on Anna Maria Island with your dog will be full of unforgettable moments. Whether you’re exploring scenic trails, enjoying a meal at a dog-friendly café, or relaxing together by the water, the island’s welcoming atmosphere makes it the perfect destination for a pet-friendly vacation. With the right preparation and a bit of planning, you and your furry friend are sure to have a trip filled with sun, fun, and plenty of tail wags.

By following these tips and planning ahead, you and your pup can have a truly memorable and enjoyable beach vacation on Anna Maria Island. Embrace the sun, sand, and surf with your best friend by your side and take full advantage of this pet-friendly paradise.

Do you see folks on standup paddle boards and think, “I’d like to do that?” Well, you can. It’s not as difficult as you might think and is as fun as it looks.

First, you’ll need a board, paddle, and U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jacket.

Rent those from Beach Bums AMI. You can pick up or take advantage of free delivery to a Bayfront Park drop spot, a great place to paddleboard with access to Tampa Bay. Paddle around the City Pier, view the Sunshine Skyway, and see the abundant wildlife in Bimini Bay. You may catch sight of dolphins and manatees.

Get basic instructions from Beach Bums’ experienced staff to ensure comfort on the water. SUPs range in size and style, so be sure you have the right fit. The same goes for the paddle, which looks like a long, stretched-out canoe paddle with a tear-drop-shaped blade.

Now you’re ready to stand. Go into knee-deep water, hold the board by the edges, and work your way onto the board in a kneeling position behind the center point of the board, according to REI outdoor gear. Place your hands on the sides of the board to stabilize it and move one foot at a time to place your feet where your knees were. Stand up slowly. You can use the paddle to help with stability.

You’re up, so what next? Stay balanced so you don’t end up in the water (although you most likely will take a tumble a few times). Position your feet so they are parallel, about hip-width distance apart, and centered on the board. Keep toes pointed forward, knees slightly bent, and back straight. Keep your head and shoulders steady and upright, and shift your weight by moving your hips. Look at the horizon and avoid looking at your feet.

Hold your paddle correctly. The blade should angle forward from the shaft, toward the nose of the board. When you’re paddling on the right side of your board, your left hand will be on the T-grip, and your right hand a few feet down on the shaft. When you switch sides, reverse your hand positions.

Now it’s just a matter of gliding along the water. Relax and enjoy the trip.

Book an AMI vacation rental to enjoy paddleboarding and other water adventures.

Brace yourself for the last celebration of summer. Labor Day falls on Sept. 2, giving you time to book an Anna Maria Island stay to enjoy the beach before fall.

On the Beach

The No. 1 activity on AMI any time of the year is a visit to the beach. Anna Maria Island has four public beaches: Bean Point, Anna Maria Beach, Manatee Beach, and Coquina Beach. Each offers something special from the playground and facilities at Manatee Beach to the seclusion of Anna Maria Beach.

Rent your Gear

There is no need to tote your beach chairs and umbrellas to the beach. CabanUp delivers everything you need for a perfect day in the sun. It’s simple. Choose a day and place where you want to set up. CabanUp will have your set-up ready by 10 a.m. most days.

Shop Pine Avenue/Bridge Street

Browse the locally owned shops and boutiques along charming Pine Avenue in Anna Maria. Or hit up the shopping options on historic Bridge Street in Bradenton Beach.

Hop the Trolley

To get from one end of AMI to the other, hop aboard the free Island Trolley, which runs at 20-minute intervals from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. every day of the week. The trolley makes it a breeze to get around and avoid traffic during your stay.

Dig In!

Enjoy fresh seafood at one of the many local restaurants. For a fine dining experience, head to Beach Bistro on the Gulf of Mexico in Holmes Beach, which offers a specially designed, four-course tasting menu. You can never go wrong with a meal at the Sandbar Seafood & Spirits, also on the water in Anna Maria. Then there’s Skinny’s, with its Old Florida feel, serving up a big, juicy burger with onion rings and a drink in a frosty mug.

Get on the Water

Beach Bums AMI rents paddleboards and kayaks to get on the water. Or soar over the water with a parasailing adventure from AMI Parasail, based at Keyes Marina in Holmes Beach. H2O Watersportz rents personal watercraft such as Jet Skis and Waverunners to cruise Tampa and Sarasota bays with unlimited riding without a guide.

A Perfect Stay

Book the perfect accommodations and wind down the summer with an AMI vacation.

It’s hard to believe how fast the summer goes by. It seems school just let out and we’ve already zoomed past the Fourth of July. It’s okay, though, because there is still time to take an AMI beach vacation before shopping for those back-to-school supplies.

First, you’ll want to book your stay. We make it easy with vacation rental in Anna Maria, Holmes Beach, Bradenton Beach, and Lido Key. Can’t get away for an entire week? Book three or four nights. Check our website for rentals that are still available during August.

Plan a mid-week stay if weekends don’t work. Weekdays are not as busy at the beach or local restaurants.
Next, don’t stress about transportation. Even if you fly in for a quick getaway, you don’t have to rent a vehicle. The Free Island Trolley offers air-conditioned (and open-air) seating and runs the length of the island from 6 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. daily.

What about food? Glad you asked. Order from The Loaded Kitchen to have the refrigerator and pantry at your vacation rental stocked with all your favorites. Of course, there are also a range of restaurants for every taste. From casual beachside Tiki bars to high-end, fine-dining establishments, you’ll find the perfect spots for your troop.
Trips to one of our four main beaches keep the kids busy. A bucket and plastic shovel can keep little ones entertained for hours. But when they are ready for time away from the beach, there are other activities as well. Hit up The Fish Hole miniature golf course in Bradenton Beach, check out Mote Marine’s interactive sea life exhibits, or try your luck on the TreeUmph ropes course.

The beauty of booking with Beach Retreats is we make it easy to plan a quick vacation. No mess. No stress. Just book your stay and pack your bags. We can help with all the rest.

Finding a spot to eat lunch is easy on Anna Maria Island where restaurants offer mouth-watering cuisine and breathtaking views. We’ll start at the north end and make our way down AMI.

Rod and Reel Pier

The Rod and Reel Pier is a little piece of Old Florida that has served traditional fare, local favorites, and famous fish specials since 1947. Order the grouper sandwich, shrimp po’boy, or a pier burger. You can’t go wrong with the view or the food.

The Waterfront Restaurant & Craft Bar is another place that takes visitors back to a simpler time. The open-air patio offers stunning views of Tampa Bay, while the menu highlights a half dozen salads and sandwiches, including fresh catch you can order blackened, fried, jerk, or grilled.

Feel like pizza for lunch? Head to Pizza Social on Pine Avenue for a build-your-own or one of their specialty pizza. They offer a gluten-free cauliflower crust and salads as well.

At Sandbar Seafood & Spirits on the Gulf side of the island experience a family atmosphere with a view you can’t beat. Enjoy fried Gulf shrimp or fish tacos served with braised greens or cheese grits.

Ginny & Jane E’s Cafe & Coastal Store serves a beach break lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Have a vegetarian or vegan in your group? Ginny & Jane E’s menu includes vegan dishes such as a quinoa and black bean burger, avocado toast, and a kale salad.

In Holmes Beach, Scott’s Deli on Gulf Drive North is the spot for great food, excellent value, and friendly service. The deli prides itself on serving fresh, homemade sandwiches made the way you like them.

Down on Marina Drive, discover the beachy vibe of The Ugly Grouper, an outdoor spot with games, live music, and TVs. The menu reflects the festive atmosphere with an ugly burger, mahi sandwich, and pulled pork sliders.

For lighter fare, head to Blueberries Café and Wine on Gulf Drive with its bright interior and healthy menu. The cafe offers paninis, wraps, pizza, and bowls, with several vegan choices, green juices, and smoothies.

The Cheesecake Cutie & Cafe on Bay Drive uses the finest ingredients in all their dishes, whether bakery items or lunch fare. Sandwiches are fresh and hearty, as are flatbreads, table salads, and green salads. But save room for dessert.

Wilder’s Slice of AMI on Gulf Drive in Bradenton Beach has a menu with a dizzying array of options sure to satisfy every taste. They serve hot and delicious calzones, stromboli, gyros, burgers, pasta, and pizza.
